Cha’s Corner

Apples don’t fall far from five-foot trees

In our family, food is not just sustenance. It’s an activity. When we were kids, our mom (AKA Cha) encouraged us to cook with her, but we snubbed her, meal after meal. Now when we go home, we spend half our time in the kitchen. Here’s a taste of the experience.

Cha to English Dictionary

Fungu = damn / usage: when you misplace something, especially a grocery list
Fungu crab = shoot / usage: less severe than “fungu” / also an epithet: “you fungu crab”
Awww shit = crap / usage: when you drop a kitchen utensil or realize you forgot to do something insignificant
Junk around = engage in a potentially messy activity, such as dog-walking / usage: usually in the context of clothing, since “junking around” entails wearing frumpy clothes that your mom trash-picked from the “give away pile” in your room

F. O. = fair only / usage: to describe a mediocre restaurant or dish
Stack = pancakes / usage: a noun describing Sunday morning breakfast
